SPM Certificate In English For Work Passes And Further Study
SPM stands for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, the Malaysian Certificate of Education. Students take it at the end of Form 5. If you hold an SPM certificate in Singapore, an officer here may ask for English.
The paper is printed mostly in Malay. Offices in Singapore, like ICA, MOM, schools and employers, often read only English. So they ask for an English translation next to the original. For ICA, the translation should be notarised by a notary public or made by the embassy.
Here is a tiny example. "Gred A+" becomes "Grade A+". "Bahasa Melayu" becomes "Malay Language". Easy words, but every one must be right. Our official Malay translation team checks each line twice before you see the draft.
Your SPM Translation Pack
- English copy of every line and stamp
- Grades kept exactly as printed
- Name spelled as in your passport
- Draft to check before final
- PDF ready for online upload
SPM Certificate In Singapore For Jobs, Study, PR And Citizenship
Holders of the Malaysian school-leaving certificate meet it again across the border. These are the places where an SPM certificate in Singapore is usually checked, and why an English version keeps each application moving.
-
Work Pass Applications
MOM looks at education when an employer applies for an S Pass or Employment Pass. A Malay SPM certificate is submitted together with its English translation.
-
Polytechnic And ITE Entry
Malaysian students applying to Singapore polytechnics or ITE may be asked for SPM results. Admissions teams need the subject names and grades in English.
-
University And Private Schools
Local universities and private schools check SPM grades for some foundation and diploma routes. An English result slip helps reviewers compare grades fairly.
-
PR Application
ICA asks for educational certificates in a PR file. A Malaysian SPM, often the highest school qualification listed, needs an English copy to go with it.
-
Citizenship Application
Malaysian PRs moving on to citizenship list their schooling once again. ICA reviews the translated SPM alongside degrees and employment records.
-
Job Applications
Singapore employers often screen secondary results for frontline or trainee roles. HR teams find a translated SPM easier to check against the job's needs.
-
Study Or Visas Overseas
Students moving from Singapore to Australia, the UK or elsewhere may need SPM results in English for admissions or visa files abroad.
-
Professional Training Courses
Training providers and SkillsFuture-linked courses may ask for an English SPM result slip to check entry levels before you can enrol.
SPM Transcript, Result Slip And Certificate Types We Translate
SPM is not just one paper. There is the SPM original certificate, the result slip, and sometimes a transcript. Each looks a little different. Below, we explain each type simply, so you know which one you hold.
The Official SPM Certificate
This is the main paper from Lembaga Peperiksaan, the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate. It lists your subjects and grades. Most offices want this one, because it is the final record of your results.
The SPM Result Slip
Schools hand out this slip, called Slip Keputusan, before the certificate is ready. It looks simpler. Some schools may accept it for a first look, but many offices still ask for the full certificate.
SPM Transcript Or Transkrip
A transcript shows the same results in a longer form. You may see the word transkrip at the top. We translate each row, so a reader can follow every subject from top to bottom.
SPM Copy Printed From Online
Some people now print their SPM cert from an online copy. We can translate that printout too. Please send the full page, with any QR code or seal, so nothing is left out.
Older SPM Certificates
SPM papers from the 1980s and 1990s can look quite different. The layout, logo and fonts may change. Our team reads older formats carefully, even if the ink has faded a little.
SPM With Other Malaysian Papers
Your SPM often travels with other papers. If you also need to translate a Malaysian birth certificate to English, send both together. We use the same spelling of your name on every page.
SPM Papers In Malay, Jawi And Other Scripts
Nearly every SPM paper is printed in Malay, yet the details can hide other scripts and subject names. Our SPM certificate English translation team reads each version as Malaysian examiners and schools actually issue it.

Sijil SPM In English: Hard Words Made Simple
Why can a word-for-word terjemahan keputusan SPM mislead? Some lines need more than a dictionary. A name, a grade or a stamp can confuse a reader. This table shows each tricky part and how we handle it.
| On The SPM Paper | What It Means | How We Translate It |
|---|---|---|
| Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia | The name of the exam and certificate | Malaysian Certificate of Education |
| Angka Giliran | Your exam index number | Index Number, with every digit copied exactly |
| Gred A+, A, B+ ... G | Your grade for each subject | Kept as printed, never changed to Singapore grades |
| bin / binti, a/l / a/p | Part of your full name | Left as written, never translated |
| Lulus / Gagal | Pass or fail lines | Pass / Fail, in the same place as the original |
| Cop and tandatangan | Official stamp and signature | Words inside stamps are translated, and marks appear as [seal] or [signature] |
If your school has an official English name, we use that name.

Frequently Asked Questions
01Is SPM equal to an O-Level in Singapore, and will you write that on the translation?
No. Many people compare SPM with the GCE O-Level, but each school or office decides how to treat it. A translator only shows what your paper says. We never add a Singapore grade or level.
02How do I get my SPM certificate online if I lost the original?
Malaysia's Examinations Syndicate (Lembaga Peperiksaan) handles copies and replacements, so check its official website for the latest way to ask for one. Once you have a copy or printout, we can translate it. Ask your office first if it accepts a replacement copy.
03Will ICA accept a translated SPM certificate from a private company?
ICA accepts a translation from the embassy of the issuing country, from a notary public, or a private translation notarised by a notary public. ICA does not endorse any translation company. We arrange the notary step, but the decision on your case is always ICA's.
04My name on the SPM has no "binti", but my passport does. Is that a problem?
We translate the name exactly as printed on your SPM paper. If it differs from your passport, tell us early and we can add a short translator's note. The office may still ask you for extra proof, so check with them.
05Can I send a phone photo, or do you need the original paper?
A clear phone photo or scan is enough for us to translate, and you keep your original. If a notary must also make a certified true copy, the notary will need to see the original in person.
06I am applying for citizenship. Should my SPM be translated with my other papers?
Yes, it is a good idea. Sending everything at once keeps your name and terms the same on every page. Our translation for Singapore citizenship service explains which other papers are often needed.
07How fast can I get my SPM translation if my deadline is tomorrow?
Most SPM papers are ready in 1–2 working days. Many single-page documents can be done the same day with express service, which adds 50%. Notarisation needs extra time, so message us early in the day.
08I studied in Korea after my SPM. Can you translate that degree too?
Yes. Our Korean translation services cover degrees, transcripts and school letters from Korea. Send both sets together and we will give you one fixed quote for the whole file.
09Is the SPM certificate in Malay or English?
The SPM certificate and result slip are printed mainly in Malay, including subject names and grade labels. Even English as a subject appears under its Malay title, Bahasa Inggeris. That is why Singapore offices usually ask for an English translation.
10Does MOM accept a translated SPM certificate for a work pass?
MOM asks that certificates not in English come with an English translation. Your employer uploads both when applying for the pass. MOM makes its own decision, so no translator can promise approval.
11How much does SPM certificate translation cost in Singapore?
It starts from S$25 per page, and most SPM certificates fit on one page. If ICA needs it notarised, notarisation including SAL authentication starts from S$162.20 per document. Same-day express adds 50% to the translation charge.
